ZZDP is absolutely essential for our cars - do without it at your peril.

Roger - I have looked, but have never, not once, seen a ZDDP level on an oil jug in any store where I've bought motor oil. That includes all of the major auto parts stores. Of course, most of the clerks that work in those places don't even know what it is. Still, where on the jug is the ZDDP content listed?

Sometimes you can get that info at the manufacturer's web site. For me I decided to use Rotella's replacement oil they now market as a replacement for the one they used to sell with ZDDP in it.
Their web site has some very good technical info. The new oil has better numbers than the old one.

But I agree, the best solution is to use an oil that has it, and in sufficient quantities.....the question is, what happens if they all stop using ZDDP?

At first I resisted the idea of spending that much on oil. But now that I see I only need to change it once per year at most, it is not as hard to swallow.

Right now I am very happy with Rotella considering my driving habits and location, but the option to change is always on the table.
