I am seriously thinking of installing the 928 Motorsports TEC GT Engine Management System (EMS) kit, which is a complete replacement for all of these items on the 928:
The entire stock ignition system
The entire stock fuel injector system
The entire fuel injector wiring harness
The distributor caps, ignition coils, and spark plug wires
The stock LMB (injection) computer
The stock EZK (ignition) computer.
The stock MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor
the reason is on the page below

Brad, I wouldn't worry about the transmission until you're positive it needs more attention than a simple pan gasket/filter job or a slight adjustment. That is, unless you're sure that you're experiencing some slipping. These MB transmissions are tough man!!
On the other hand, if I were you, I would definitely do the head gaskets while you have the engine pulled. Head gasket trouble is much more common on earlier cars for some reason. Perhaps that is just simply for the fact that they're older and that many earlier cars have "sat up" for years at a time whereas the later 928s typically haven't received the same kind of neglect. The only way to replace the head gaskets on your '89 is with the engine out of the car so why not seize the opportunity now, you know? In another ten years, every S4/GT under the sun may have a leaking pair of head gaskets. You never know. It seems a lot of the deferred maintenance issues with 928s surface with owners all at the same time. Look up thrust bearing failure as an example. I am unaware as to when the first failure was reported. However, it seems that it has only become a real enough threat for owners to regularly check their flex plate migration in like the last ten years. See my point? Also, as a long time professional mechanic, I know you know that gaskets don't last forever. Do the head gaskets, man. You won't regret it.
