Oil plug use a washer or not?

Jones Auto Works in SA would be a good place to check in with. They work on quite a few 928 down your way. They worked on my 1st 928 (it was originally purchased in SA and lived there for its first 8 years of life). They WILL BE EXPENSIVE, but if you get in a bind they are a good resource to have handy and have a relationship with!

Thanks for the recommendation. The original and previous owner also recommended Jone's Autowerks as honest and competent if I ran into a problem I cannot repair. The orginal owner for example used them to replace the air conditioning system, to replace the timing belt and water pump and to do an alignment. (I would have to use them for A/C servicing but no way on the timing belt - labor is too expensive anywhere.)

If I cannot fix it myself, I cannot afford this car. Which is why this forum is valuable to me. The 928 came with four factory service notebooks but, so far, the manuals don't compare with the helpfulness of this forum.

To close out this issue, I found a 22 mm oil drain plug with gasket at O'Reilly's Auto Parts. Cost me $12 plus tax and I only needed the gasket. I also ordered 4 additonal oil drain gaskets from Pelican Porsche Parts in California (at 25 cents each). Pelican had them in stock and and their web page ordering is working. Will always check Texas-based 928srus first in the future.

The shop manuals SUCK A$$!! Dwayne's tech articles are THE ONLY WAY TO GO! Well, there are a couple of other folks who have followed Dwayne's lead and done some write ups that he had not yet done, but his info is UNMATCHED! With Dwayne's write ups a Monkey that can read could work on a 928! Some mechanics I have seen are not even in a reading Monkey category though! LOL!

This place pays for itself the first time you use the "Roadside assistance program" or the tech forums area!!! Not to mention the cool shirt you get for joining and the other goodies that follow when you renew!!! Heading to the Post office in just a bit with 25+ new member and renewal gifts to send out! So if you joined or renewed in the last 2 months and have not received your goodie...watch your mail box starting next week!
