Original Radios

I have an 1980 Australian delivered base 928 with no radio upgrade option. Can someone please post a picture and some information on what the radio should look like in the console and the Blaupunkt model info. I guess it may be handy to others also if there were a pictorial list of original radios and of factory upgrade radios with their M-numbers somewhere on the site for people keen to restore their cars to stock.

These old radios are damn near impossible to find! Working ones even harder to find!

So far I've found 1978-79 models and 1981-82 models, but I'm yet to find a 1980 factory installation online... if anyone has one and can post a pic it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm new to 928s. I've only restored 60's Fords in the past and the 928 hobbyist these days seem a lot like the Mustang guys were 20 years ago.
Keep all the original parts you have when you modify your cars, one day soon original viscous fans and stock exhausts will be unobtainium.

Select 1980 and you will see all of the cars registered by owners for the year. An Australian car would be classified as rest of world (ROW). I scanned several of the cars looking for pictures and option codes. I did see one Australian car, but there was no radio option. If you are motivated you can search more

This early car 928registry.928oc.org/registry-main/regi...-1980-928-s-row-0007 for the Belgium market had option I422 = Blaupunkt Bamberg. That option code was only used (see columns for that year and all years) in 1980 and fitted to 218 cars. However it was fitted to other models, see:

So it appears that the radio you show for the 910 would be correct (i.e. not the Bamberg QTS)

A bit of research has yielded an unfortunate finding. Australian delivered cars, were sent here with no radio. I'm not sure if this was a tax issue with local content affecting import duties, or a bandwidth issue where we use up to 108 on the FM spectrum and the Euro radios only seemed to go to 104mhz.

Radios here seem to be dealer fitted so it could have any high-end period correct radio depending on the dealer.

In a similar vein, I'm curious if my Japanese market '90 came with a radio. Japan has a unique FM band plan shared with no other country so it might have been easier for Japanese dealers to install a Japanese radio. I gather Australia had originally intended to follow the Japanese scheme but ultimately went with western plan.
