Is it on the Engine ?

The engine number is on the top front of the engine, on the horizontal surface of the block.

To the passenger side of the coolant housing on the top of the block as wally said.

I found it but it gives me a bug and want to be validate.
this is the story.
I want to change my motor harness for my 1987 S4 manual, i got 2 parts possible.
928 607 002 14 for engine >> 81H00957 M28.41 et 81H07304 M28.42
or
928 607 002 15 for engine 81H00958 M28.41 et 81H07305 M28.42 >>

that's why i'm looking to my engine number who's M28 / 42 and 81H06906.
But this number seems to be for a auto transmission.
Can someone confirm it's a number for a auto transmission ?

Can someone check for my VIN : WP0JB092XHS861477 en validate if this number is for auto ou manual transmission ?

M41 is five-speed, M42 is automatic.

Perhaps your engine has been changed at some point.
