Find the dimmer for your dash lights (location varies with model year), check for 12 vdc on both sides (dash lights on). If no power on either side, check the fuse (location varies with model year) and its connections. Power on one side only, clean the dimmer, or simply connect the two leads, eliminating the dimmer - most people feel that the lights aren't bright enough anyway.

First connect the leads as Wally suggested so that you can either rule out or conclude that the dimmer switch is/isn't the fault. Then report back.

The only green wires that I see in a quick scan of the '83 wiring diagrams include:
- The tach lead. If the tach works, probably not your cut wire.
- Heater control to defroster flap solenoid. If the air changes to the defrost nozzles when you move the lever to defrost, probably not your wire.

I don't remember ever seeing what I would describe as a "lime green" wire on a 928 - doesn't mean that there aren't any, just that I don't remember one.

Does your car have an aftermarket alarm system? An aftermarket stereo system? Radar detector? Any other electric/electronic devices?

If you really want to identify the cut wire, please attach a voltmeter to the wire and to ground, and check for power under these conditions:
- All the time.
- Ignition switch on.
- Engine running.
- Ignition switch on, lights on.
- Ignition switch on, HVAC on DEFROST.
- Ignition switch on, various lights on.
- Ignition switch on, anything that you can think of...
