Sorry to be so glum about it, but it is true. As the great Jim Bailey says, your car is "$10k (or we actually KNOW $12k+) away from being a $5k car!" While that is a depressing thought it is completely true and to let a non-928 guy rip out your interior to redo it...is just BEGGING for SERIOUS trouble!!

If you could actually do what you are talking about for $12k and seriously get a quality (as in factory original quality) job it would be WELL worth it, but I suspect that even at a massive $12k they will realize they are losing a LOT of money on the job and it will end up being slapped back together half assed and the car will never be "quite right".

I been exploring that avenue also, there are a few nice 928’s out there for $12000.00. Thanks for your thoughts!

Oscar,

There are some SERIOUSLY nice 928's out there for that money. A Ruby Red '83 recently sold for $7k or something like that and it was SPECTACULAR with a really nice berber interior in off white with burgundy accents. Hell of a car! May have been less than $7k and it only had like 65k miles and it was being sold by the original owner. Car had been for sale for the better part of a year!

James keep in mind for Oscar this is a car he knows, often that is much better starting point than the car he does not know...

Stan, I agree a known car is a great thing to have, but it is not that hard to find GOOD owners and sellers with complete records on already great looking (in and out and mechanically too) cars for $12k! If his car runs and drives great but still needs full interior and paint (color change no less!!!) then he would be MUCH, MUCH better off getting another car and turning that bad boy in to a SUPER FUN (and light weight after removing several hundred lbs worth of crap and overly heavy seats) track car!!

Hell, as a sorted street legal, good running track car it would probably be worth more on the market too! Sand it down, put a nice wrap on it. Strip out everything not completely needed inside the car and BAM...super fun DE car!

I certainly agree it is an option, but having an all new interior and paint is attractive as well. Hmm, haven't you gone that route? :)

P.S. My GT is headed down that path as well
