membership for a friend

Thinking of our club and its membership I'm curious what our exec thinks of current members procuring a one year membership for friends as new members.

While these new members are on board we build the club with organised events and technical now how gained from our collective 928 experiences, our career experiences and technical fortitude.

Not sure if this needs to go before the exec for vote but I put it out there for thoughts and comments.

I can't think of any reason why the board would need to vote on this. Of course we would want the gift recipient to "accept" the gift, but that is all I can think of.

James, as membership chair, what are your thoughts? Can we offer a small incentive to current members to promote enthusiastic response? Gift certificate at our favourite vendor?

Not sure what you mean Malcolm.
Do you mean for a member to pay for the membership to encourage someone to join?

Great idea. Like buying a subscription to a magazine for a friend.

Unfortunately James doesn't have board approval to offer something of value.

I am not sure we have the value in the membership to provide and financial incentive. About half the annual membership goes back to the members for the sign-up/renewal memento, the rest of the money is used to support events.
