1983 928s EURO. WILL NOT START

My 1983 928s EURO. WILL NOT START. The car with 32,000 original miles had been in storage the past 11 years
I put in a new battery and started it ok .I added some gas to the near empty tank and had a mechanic perform a full oil and oil filter change.
Now the vehicle after several attempts will not start.
The mechanic thinks its a fuel pump problem. Any suggestions and ideas are welcome.

If you didn't flush the old gas you might well have plugged the pump or lines.

There is an easy test to see if the fuel pump can run - jumper the relay. You can easily hear a running pump if the engine is not running. I am not familiar with '83s but, the later cars the pump does not run when the ignition is on unless the engine is running, hence the need to jumper. I made a switched jumper described in one of my posts, but a simple wire between two of the relay sockets is all that is required. Let us know if you can't find which two.

If the pump can run, then the next test would be to see if the relay is working - it can be swapped with one of the other '53' relays such as the one for the horn (test the horn first to confirm the relay is good).

Lots of other things to test if the pump and pump relay are good.

Remove the nut from the end of the right fuel rail and place a cup at the end of the rail to catch fuel. Careful! Don't lose the ltitle metal ball seal that should be located inside your removed nut.

Turn the car over. You should get a few ounces of fuel into the cup during the startup effort. If no fuel is present, report back.

Also, the pump can usually be heard to run for a couple seconds after a failed startup attempt.
