**928 Track Day Event March 15-17,2013**

Robert, if you have not done a track day before the work on your car you really won't know what good all the work did...even if you have done one or even two track days you are still learning so much that the seat time is actually MUCH more valuable and useful than the actual car mods. It is an entirely different world being on the track!

That said, you should get your shark out there and REALLY enjoy it.

BTW, the reason you don't see "superspeeways" being rented for DE's is three fold:

A. Normally they are VERY EXPENSIVE to rent.
B. The road courses they have withing them SUCK and are BORING as hell!
C. Porsche's are not set up to run ovals and neither are most drivers frankly!

I have about 10,000 track miles on my S4 and over 20,000 miles instructing students on track and man is it a blast!!! Find a good safe (as in lots of run off room) road course and go have some fun!

Robert - Also note, if you do do not want to try and do extended track time over the weekend, they will also have an option to run one session, on the track with an instructor along with class instruction, for 50.00.

UPDATE***** the above statement is not true for this event. I checked with the rep through my local chapter. I believe the next one is an HPDE at Summit Point around April.

It is a little too close to Christmas bill paying this time, so I think I will do some more motor work and get the new shocks on instead. Then next time.....!

Yes, I am truly excited for this opportunity. I would love the chance to possibly meet up with some of you guy's at the track and gets some tips. The opportunity to have a professional instructor on board for a few spins around would be worth a fortune to me. I have never tracked any of my p-cars but I am convinced my S4 even with the Auto gear box would be an absolute blast!!!

As details arise for signing up. Would someone please keep me posted through the OC sight as I have become a daily addict.

Robert, "professional" instructor...doubtful...experienced instructor, without a doubt! I have over 10,000 track miles on my '88 auto and it was/is a BLAST on track. I have instructed many, many students and have over 20,000 right seat (instructor) miles under my belt and I must say there is little more satisfying than seeing things "click" for your student and watching them go faster and faster with each session! I just love it and understand why some teachers get hooked (despite mostly dismal pay)!

Be sure to change your trans fluid VERY REGULARLY if you are going to track the car. At least after every 5-6 events I would say! I ultimately burned up my trans fluid and then the tranny itself. DOH! Got a good replacement from 928 Intl ultimately, but still it was a PITA and fairly expensive to deal with and could have been avoided had my mechanic at the time told me we needed to change it out each year. (I was doing about 4-6 events a year then.)

Registration for the March 15,16,17 2013 Driver's Education event

at Virginia International Raceway will start on:

Monday, January 14th, 2013 at 8:00 pm EST

PCA members can sign up immediately at 8 pm

Non PCA members have to wait til Jan 21st....

If there ever was a reason to join PCA or renew...this is it....

I cannot say that registration will fill up fast.......

My experience with this PCA Zone 2 event is that it does....

$46 for a PCA membership is low, compared to being put on a wait list

Might be a good idea to preview the registration web site early....

Sign up and register with them in advance......

I think the cost for the 3 day event is $375-395...

Dinner/ banquet included Sat nite...plus other social stuff...

The event insurance thru Lockton Affinity is about $125-150 for

the 3 day event while on premises...see the Zone 2 PCA website for more info

This will cover your car against loss and damage on an agreed upon value...

The policy is No Fault and if you really screw up...you and the other guy(s)

are covered by the respective policies...you agree upon a value of your car...

Like $12,000 for a 928 plus modifications = $14,000,less deductible,

that is what they pay if a total loss occurs.

It also covers the cleanup that the track mgmt has to do after an incident...

Tech inspections must be done no earlier than 4 weeks before the event....

A PCA certified shop in your area can do this ....about $55...give yourself plenty of time to

make repairs and reinspect...The Tech form is on the PCA Zone 2 website

From the DC areas it takes about 4.5 hours to get down to Danville, VA

I usually stay at the Best Western on S. Boston in town...Race rates may apply....Book early...

Try to book a double room and split with someone...really helps with costs

Usually come down on Thursday...unload the car and trailer at VIR that afternoon...unless there is an event previous and then you gotta wait...

Danville is 20 min from VIR so easy to get over there at 7am Friday...

3-4 sessions per day for all three days....lots of classroom time for the

Green and Blue groups...PCA's name for beginners......

NOW....for the BAD NEWS...

The rule is : in order to run a PCA event,a DE, a driver must have

participated in 3 Auto cross events

OR attended the High Performance Driving Clinic...HPDC..as a PCA member

Those of you with no DE or track experience..aka No Log Book

cannot sign up for the VIR event in March

I will be checking with Manny Alban, PCA National President
and Chesapeake Region Registrar.....
