loose steering was created by Matt928
car drives, corners great at lower speeds. when changing lanes at higher speeds the car seems "loose". it's "sloshy". i checked the tire pressure (all four 35psi cold). any ideas why?

thanks, matt

Many parts are not *stressed* at lower speeds but are at higher speeds.
Suspension and steering parts would be what to check.
Can you tell if it is steering that is sloshy or suspension?
Sway bar end links, ball joints, shock, steering rack, bushings throughout are all possible candidates.

Hey Matt, its kind of general so how about a picture of your ride hight to start with.

Then, if you had to guess, is it sloshy more in the back or in the front?

BTW I would check all your wheel nuts just for piece of mind. Torque them to 100 ft/lb

then get back to us, with the picture.

As the car sits on the ground, have someone get in the car and turn the steering wheel a bit each way, not enough to actually move the tires. As they are doing this, lay down with a flash light, behind each tire, and watch the steering rack for movement. If you see the rack moving and the tires not, it is a sign of bad steering rack bushings.

If the rack is not leaking then I would replace the rubber stock ones with a better replacement from 928sRus. Delrin is my choice.

If the rack is solid, jack each side up individually so the tire is off the ground. Grab the tire at 3 and 9 position and push/pull. If you have excessive movement (almost any) you have an inner tie rod problem. Then grab the 12 and 6 position and repeat, if there is movement then your wheel bearings are in need of adjustment.
