Often neglected - check them out - Exhaust system hangers

I suffered all five of the exhaust hangers failing at the same time.  The entire exhaust system was only held in place by the exhaust manifold.  If I hadn't noticed, it could have become a very dangerous situation.

This is what I saw when I looked under the car.

This is what the hanger looks like, it is part number 928-111-259-02.  Depending on your model, it may use as many as five of these hangers.  One or two can fail and not be noticed.  The remaining mounts get over stressed and then can all fail at once.

Rich,
Great post.  You are exactly correct as the newest of our cars have now been having a piece of rubber (that deteriorates with age and heat), suspending the long (and heavy with rear muffler) suspension components for 28 years or more and maybe many heat cycles..   Surprising, having lived in 'the Valley of the Sun' for a few years that those on your car lasted that long.   I'm gonna' look into getting at least 2 or 3 new ones form my car that spent over 25 years in southern CA.
