In 1982 Was Clear Coat used on Paint or Enamel?

I have a light blue, 1982 928 and getting ready to do some paint touch up and buffing/polishing.

Does anyone know if base coat/clear coat was used in 1982 or just enamel?

I will be posting some pics once I get her shining! This was a barn find by me with 44k miles! It needs some TLC for sure. I spent the winter, and quite a few bucks going thru the mechanics...a work in progress but it's humming nicely now! Getting ready for new wheels, just ordered Borla's cat back too!

non-metallic colors like red did not have clearcoat. All metallic colors did.
