I'm considering updating the B2 servo on my 86.5 on a precautionary basis.

Some who have done it in the past, also change the bushing that the servo piston seats against. One of the vendors says they typically just swap out the servo itself.

Anyone have some facts that would help clear up the course of action?

There is a good read and some good info for the brake band servo on this thread at Rennlist.
I use to rebuild trans for GM and it looks like all the basics are in the thread, but you need to follow the manual.
I hope this helps

Hi Brad,

Thanks for the input! Yes, that is one of a couple RL threads that are helpful, and I"ve been messaging with Chris/Landseer. I put a lot of stock in his views. However, the vendors have been baffled when I've called to get hold of the "bushing" that he took out with the press, that the servo seats against. Gregg Brown's comments that I've located don't refer to it either, just that the dampner and band are also updated but not necessarily essential.

Verdict was...after waiting a couple weeks the bushing that the servo seats against couldn't be had so I went in without it. Just did servo, filter, fluid. Results are great, much better responsiveness. Some wear is evident on the old servo, which had an '85 date stamp. Good precautionary undertaking (ie impetus for doing it was the known design upgrade, not any kind of failure).
