OK, mystery solved. I was able to connect the battery today, and it is hot! I was sure I had accounted for all the red wires, and I had. Apparently it is the ABS power wire. But I don't have ABS.
So thanks very much for the responses. I owe you a cold Canadian beer! Hopefully I can pay up if there's a gathering in Alberta next summer!

Good to hear, Mark. Looks like I was wrong in my estimation that the wire in question was for a ground. Glad you could source its location. How did you decide to hide it since it is not in use?

Thanks Austin. It's hot, so I'll try to find the other end and disconnect it, then just cut it off. It either connects at the hot post under the hood or at the starter.

Make sure that you have the wire feeding the jump start post connected, as this feeds virtually everything on the car. This cable runs from the starter post (where the main battery cable connects) up to the jump start post.
If it went to the ABS, that connector is a block in the right front corner of the engine compartment (if the car is so equipped).

OK, I think I have it solved. I found the other end of it at the starter and disconnected it. I guess I will tear the cover off of the last third of the harness to remove that wire, while the car is up on stands.
Wally, you're right, this wire is on the same connector at the starter as the one that goes to the hot post. I had to figure out which was which.
Thanks again everybody for the help!!
