Running wiring from the front console

I imagine lots of people, at least the infamous 'Past Owners', run new wires from the console area (e.g. for stereo systems) by just poking them thru under the carpet on the sides of the transmission tunnel.

However, once you remove the carpet completely it becomes evident that Porsche left a channel/conduit on each side with simple wire holders. Here is the driver's/left:



and passenger/right with non-standard speaker wires on my '88 S4 :
