Bottom of the page says

Really? 227 users at one time? Can this be true or am I not understanding this?

The question is what time period does this software define as online. Since we access using a browser, which is stateless, it cannot actually determine if a browser is open with a 928 OC page. It can only determine the last time a page was loaded from a unique site. So if the interval is set at 24 hours as an example, then it would usually mean that number of unique users had opened one or more pages in that time period.

I have no reason to question the software. I don't have any reason to believe the defaults are overridden, so you can check whatever the defaults are for vbulletin software.
