I want to buy Porsche 928

In my life I had and liked only 2 cars: Toyota Supra (MKIV) and Porsche 928.

Few weeks ago I bought a pretty Supra again and I'm thinking of buying a 928.
I did not own a 928 since 2000, so I have few questions before I buy it:

1. Please tell me if the car is still supported by Porsche. Can I still buy OEM parts, or most of the stuff is discontinued?

2. If it is still supported by Porsche, can I buy brand new interior parts, suspension A-arms, electronics?

3. Which transmission would you recommend at this point? The automatic or manual tran is more reliable after 100k miles?

4. Where can I find pictures of a nice 928 that has be lowered?

5. Are there any 928 events in the New York/New Jersey/CT area where I can check out what the car looks like these days?

ILL expand on this tomorrow as its midnight when I seen your post, and I am sure others will jump in.

1. You can still buy some of the parts at Porsche but the resellers (928s Rus, 928intel, and others) will get you what you need .

2. interior parts, suspension A-arms, electronics can be got through the venders as well.

3. Both transmission are reliable with there own quirks. Clutch on the standard and thrust bearing failure on the auto.

The 928s haven't been produced since 1995, so the looks haven't changed

32v (later models) vs 16v (earlier models) - each have their own issues but generally 32v has more power and a few more things to go wrong due to increased complexity. 16v are older, less power and of course harder to find in good shape. I have an 83 and based on the last event I attended, in pretty good shape. All depends on if you want to bring it up to speed yourself or buy it pretty much ready to go (and pay extra for it).

You will spend some time and $ fixing little (and sometimes bigger) odd mechanical and electrical things and want to make a few cosmetic changes. But it will be a labor of love and if you liked them before you will like them again. Riding around in them is just an exceptional experience.....like a cross between a finely tuned European touring car and a 1970 muscle or trans-am race car. Cool.....and unique.

4. Where can I find a picture of a nice 928 that has been lowered?


SERIOUSLY? Maybe the 928 is not the car for you... They are pretty damn low already, yet don't tend to crunch their spoilers...lower at your own (and your spoilers) peril for sure. I would not recommend that at all.

Your information if very vague... No mention of budget or what you plan to use the car for (I am afraid to ask considering question #4!) Without a bit more info about your wants and needs it is hard to even start to direct or guide you.

The 928 is an AMAZING CAR! They stopped building them in '95 in part because the market for them was small but I tend to think it was more because they didn't want to go back in and do a lot of re-engineering on the on board diagnostic systems so that the car would meet OBDII specifications mandated by the US govt.

If you have owned one then I am not sure why you are asking any of these questions as you would already know the answers to them. If you have NEVER owned one then I am even more confused about your statement.
