Telephone Dial Rims on a 1985 928?

I just purchased my second 928 - a 1985 model. I'm not exactly sure what I'll be doing with it, but at $2000.00 I figured I'd pick it up and (surprisingly) drive it home. In decoding the VIN, I found it to be one of 14 with telephone dial rims. In researching the rims I came to believe that these weren't available for '85 - were these an odd option throughout the years?

I suppose if Porsche had some,, they were happy to sell them as options I guess! I do not recall seeing any before either. Also there was a project to make Phone dials in 18 in if you are interested, I kind of like them, they are certainly unique. I just wish they were 17 in,

I bought an '85 928 earlier this year and it too had Phone Dial rims. At the same time a friend of mine bought an '86 which also had the same rims. I do not know if they were stock or put on by the previous owner, but I definitely like them better than the disc looking ones.

Nice job on the price. I am starting to see 928s in good shape sell for around $20,000. This car is a blast to drive.
