The seemingly endless sorting goes on with my 928 (as will happen when you take it to a mechanic that can actually diagnose the real problems). Now it has been discovered that the A/C problem with the car is a result of the evaporator core inside the car leaking coolant. While I am glad I did not suffer the experience of the two previous owners (who spent a total of nearly $8K trying to find the problem by having almost every other A/C system part replaced except what was actually faulty) I am not happy that fixing the real issue will cost upwards of $2200...75% of which will be labor in removing the dash and center consoie.

My question: Is anyone aware of any aftermarket company that builds a better quality evaporator core for the 928 than the OEM part? I've heard more than once that the A/C evaporators in the front A/C unit of the 928 are remarkably fragile and prone to failure. While this particular unit must have lasted around 26 years, due to the enormous cost of labor involved in replacing the unit I naturally want the most rugged and highest quality part available for it's replacement. If anyone knows of a company that specializing in building higher quality parts to replace Porsche OEM parts that have been known to have issues, I would appreciate knowing how to contact them. My mechanic (34 years experience working on 928s) said he'd once heard such A/C parts were indeed made by an aftermarket manufacturer, but couldn't recall the name of the company(s).

I'd reach out to 928 Motorsports, Roger at 928sRUs, and 928 International to see if any of those guys can point you in the right direction.
