For those of you who have electronic readers, "The Mists of Adriana" is FREE for ALL electronic reading devices tomorrow and Monday. This is a year end promotion. The story is a romantic thriller set on the Maine coast. The principal character is a former army officer (Vietnam) entering his early autumnal years. He enjoys early morning drives along the coast near Acadia National Park and one one of these early morning drives in his 928, he comes upon a woman standing beside her stranded 944 Turbo S, one of its rear tires completely flat. He fixes the tire for her so she can continue on her way, but she insists that he allow her to take him to lunch in Portland, 150 miles away soon. He is not particularly interested in a new "relationship" but reluctantly agrees to meet her. She takes him to a very interesting private estate which has a private road racing/driver training course in wester Maine and before lunch, they each enjoy the experience of driving fine high performance Porsches on this private course. She is a master of her Turbo S, and to his surprise she drives his 928 much faster on the course than he ever could.

The relationship begins at that point and over the course of the story the woman he knows as Adriana becomes more and more important to him. Her background begins to become more and more clear, much as the center of an onion becomes more apparent as the outter layers are peeled away. She is at once what she appears and much, much more besides. Soon he relearns the lesson he learned years before in the jungles of Vietnam, that often when things seem too good to be true, they often are.

Recent reviewers have said: "He has a Porsche 928 which he is extremely fond of which leads him into an weird and wonderful love affair with a beautiful girl by the name of Adriana. Lovely, exciting and mysterious, he falls hard for her. The adventure he gets sucked into starts from that very first meeting when he finds her stranded and standing by HER Porsche. This becomes a well written roller coaster."

AND: "Learning that her father was a Cold-War spook, that her parents were killed in an accident, that the summer camps she attended as a teenager where geared to train her for a life as a spy and that she is on the run from a drug-dealing Columbian husband, would throw up red flags for most of us, however he stumbles blindly on. When we begin to wonder if the stranded motorist ploy was a plot to pull him in and finding his house is bugged by factions of the government who are keeping an eye on his lady-friend, nothing seems to deter him from developing the relationship; she is after all the most beautiful woman ever to be attracted to him
In this first book of a planned trilogy the author treats us to a fast-paced debut novel full of intrigue and danger. As in `Rebecca', the classic story from du Maurier we are never given the name of our adventurer, however this trick works so well that I did not realize the absence of a name until I began the review process, so bravo Mr. Woodbury."

Now, to be clear, this book is not about the Porsche 928, but the seeds of the story were in my ownership and love of this automobile. The 928 is featured prominently in the early part of the story, and I am sure that all 928 enthusiasts will really enjoy their ride around Hoylcroft Raceway sitting beside the beautiful Adriana as the 928 "dances with her".
