Looking at 89 S4 in Nashville, TN

The owner just told me yesterday that he's had the cats removed and no longer has them. I know in TX emissions testing is on all cars less than 25 years old. How expensive is it for replacement cats?

I have an X-pipe and aftermarket Hi-Flow CATs on my '89. No big deal except I'm now making about 20-30 more HP than with stock CATs.

Call Roger @ 928sRus and he can give you the exact current price, but IIRC it's less than a thou for the X and the CATs.

I've gotten conflicting info on the number of cats originally on the 89. One 928 mechanic here in Houston says 4 cats, the mechanic in Nashville says only 2. Which is it?

Its just to as far as I know. Just 2 on my 89 Euro from Japan

Be sure NOT to take your car to the IDIOT that said 4!!! The proper number is 2 and in factory form they are removed together because they are welded up as a single unit!
