Trailer hitch on a Porsche??? was created by SnowDaddy
Anyone seen or put a trailer hitch on a 928.
I am purchasing an 18 ft. boat & trailer, and I was wondering if it would make sense to install a hidden hitch on my Porsche, or go buy a small truck to tow it. Not that I made of money or anything like that, but I'd rather not be know as the "dude who put a hitch on his Porsche"
Any and all thoughts will be considered.
Thanks
SD

Hey SD I am sure it has been done, it is a 18 ft boat and the cost of a trans or just the ware and tear would make me think twice.
If your car is an auto then I would say no because it is so hard on the trans.
Even the chev 1/2 tons were cooking their over drives on the 700R4 trans unless you towed in 3rd.
The other thing is how to mount it so that it will not damage the frame from the extra stress.
I am sure it can be done correctly, but . . .
I would buy a old bronco or blazer to carry the extra gear.
lift vest, cooler, fishing poles, gas cans, ect, ect, ect
Thats my 9 2 8 cents

I have a 75 Vette that I put a hitch on to pull a boat years ago it made everything in the car rattle and squeak, The 928 is a better car, but I would not risk it!!

There is a guy in the Netherlands who tows a small trailer with his 928.
To tow a trailer, the subject of power is second to tow-vehicle weight. A 200 hp truck that weighs 5000 pounds will have a way better time towing a 5000 pound travel trailer than a 300 hp Porsche 928 that weighs 3300 pounds. The tractor needs to control the trailer, and weight is the answer.
Yes, you can tow a trailer with a 928. The question is why do you want to? I have a 16 foot boat, and I use a '97 Ford Aerostar to pull the trailer around. The Aerostar is a work car, kept at the airport and rarely at the house. I keep a Subaru in Memphis 900 miles away for the same purpose. These auxiliary cars are CHEAP, and they come in handy, I can always find a use. Why would you put a hitch on a 928 when you can easily put one on an aux car?
