Short Shifter for a 85

Is there a kit for converting a std. 5 speed to a SS? Does the kit include just the short lever and hardware and you have to reuse your existing knob and boot cover? Do I have to change the rear coupler bushing?

I'm considering a change to the SS, since I drove a local owner's 928 with a SS and really liked the short throw. I forgot to ask him these questions.

Thanks for any insight or experiences with this.

I have the SS that was sold in the past, probably still is, by the 928 vendors. It is just a replacement for the lever, everything else is re-used (except the springs are discarded as I recall).

I like it, and have it in both my GT and race car.

Thanks Brad. I just read that thread. Very informative but I still have a question about the boot cover.

Stan, did you have to modify (shorten) your boot cover? I would imagine that if you went to a shorter lever then the boot cover would be too long/sloppy and not look right. I see Paul Champagne sells a short shifter boot and knob that looks real nice.

The stock boot cover was used, it looks fine to me, and so far as I know is what most/all use.
