Should the RMB stainless steel exhaust last a lifetime? I have one that rusted after 12 Yrs. I thought these would never rust.

I would think they would last a long time, but perhaps if used with an overabundance of road salt, they might not.
Perhaps there is more than one manufacturer and varying selections of metal as well.

Lifetime I doubt, and maybe 12 years is about right. I think it is more about miles and the normal environment it has lived in during that time though. I have had an RMB on my S4 since they came out and it is NOT a SS one... My '92 GTS also has a regular RMB on it that is at least 10 years old and neither of them are showing any signs of rust that I can see. These cars have each gone about 30k miles (guessing on the GTS) with the RMB's in place just so you can get a feel for how much driving they have on them.

There are quite a few different grades of stainless steel, with widely varying degrees of corrosion resistance, and corresponding differences in cost.

I deal with salt issues all the time. I have found that stainless is exactly what it says. It STAINS LESS!!!!!!!
