Newbie buys Euro 928S

Howdy Folks from France....I've just purchased a 1980 928S Euro model that's been sitting for 7 years in a garage. It was running when parked and I dare say, there's not a scratch on it. I only paid 1000 euros for it ($1370 at current rates) and wondered if you are able to give me any tips for getting it running again after having sat up for so long. This is the 300HP model, but on the down side, it has an automatic transmission. The odometer is showing 167000kms (just over 100,000 miles) and the widow of the owner can't find any of the paperwork on the car but she told that her husband kept it well maintained. Do you think the timing belt is shot, for example. What about the injection pump and injectors?, etc etc. I would be grateful for your input. Any tips on what I should do before firing it up.

I've owned 4 911's, 2 356's and I currently own a 912 and I've always wanted a 928 but have been nervous about the running costs. Finally have taken the dive! It's a beauty!

Oh wow what a nice find.

I would not even turn the key on because all the sluge from the old fuel will kill all your injectors.
The belt may brake because it has been sitting in one spot and is old and dried out.

This may take a while to get it ready to run so take your time.

-Drain fuel.
-Remove timing belt cover and inspect the belt.
-Change engine oil and filter (while the T-belt is off, prime the engine by spining oil pump)

There is a list here somewhere, maybe one of the other guys knows where it is, I'm at work.

GREAT buy! What a steal! I'd change the belt for sure, but I wouldn't let it stop me from driving it just a bit anyway to be sure things are going ok. ALL fluids should be changed and as many belts and hoses as you can get to, including fuel lines if possible. Check brakes after you get it running and you are sure it stops, go out and heat the brakes up with some big stops and be sure they are not pulling one way or another and check to see that each corner has good hot brakes...if one is not working, you will probably feel it when you hit the brake pedal, but I always like to go around and see if the fronts each feel about the same temp and that the rears feel about the same temp.

If you get tired of it, ship it to me in TX! I'll give you what you have in it!!!

I'm trying Brad...I'm trying! The other day when 928 International has a few cars coming in one of them was a nice '80 auto that needed a transmission and I guess a radiator and I asked Mark about it and he WOULDN'T sell it to me! LOL! He said he, "was doing it for my own good." LOL!
